Occupiers want to make money on TOT through "tourism" under missiles - National Resistance Center

Main points
  • The occupiers are trying to bring money into the occupied regions through the resort and tourism sectors.
  • The kremlin is attempting to shift the financial burden of the occupation onto the civilian sector through tourism forums.
  • Another goal of such “tourism” is to increase the number of civilians in frontline areas to create a “human shield” around military infrastructure, according to the National Resistance Center.

The russian occupation administration continues to create the illusion of "peaceful life" in the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of the Zaporizhzhia Region. This time, the invaders have decided to promote the occupied territories as a "tourist region" and are sending a delegation to a tourism forum in moscow. This is stated in a report by the National Resistance Center.

According to the National Resistance Center, the occupiers are actively trying to attract money to the seized regions through the resort business and tourism sector, as maintaining the occupied territories is becoming increasingly expensive for the russian budget. Against the backdrop of enormous war costs, the kremlin is attempting to shift at least part of the financial burden of the occupation onto the civilian sector.

"This is precisely why the Russian administration is promoting resorts, hotels, and the Azov Sea coast, despite the constant military presence, security issues, and the regular operation of military logistics in the region," the Center emphasizes.

It is also noted that a separate objective of such “tourism” is to increase the number of civilians in frontline areas. In fact, the occupiers are attempting to create an additional “human shield” around military infrastructure and logistics routes actively used by the army of the aggressor state, the russian federation.

"At the same time, Russian propaganda is painting a picture of the 'restoration and development' of the temporarily occupied territories for the Russian domestic audience. However, behind the facade of tourism forums and competitions lie a ruined economy, a shortage of funds, and attempts to extract profit from the occupied territories by any means necessary," the Center emphasizes.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the National Resistance Center previously described how the occupiers are profiting from the ruins of Mariupol.
