The head of the Explosives Service Department of the National Police, Volodymyr Khomenko, noted that there are fewer than a thousand explosives technicians working in Ukraine.
He said this in an interview with the Ukrainian News Agency.
According to him, today in Ukraine there is a shortened version of training for explosives technicians due to martial law, about 45 days, although previously it took 3 months.
"But this is only the initial, so to speak, basics. This is basic training that allows you to be an assistant to the main specialist who works on the site. In order to allow a specialist to work independently on the site, you need to work from 1 to 3 years," Khomenko noted.
He added that at the moment there are fewer than a thousand explosives technicians working in Ukraine. At the same time, the number of calls to the scene has increased a thousandfold.
"If we take into account that 500 drones arrive, then this is already 500 calls. That is, explosives technicians are the first to work on site after firefighters. Or together with them," Khomenko said.
He noted that explosives technicians work either together with SESU employees at the site of arrival, or are the first to arrive on site.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that Ukraine plans to scale up its own production of explosives. In Kyiv, a victim was hospitalized after a night attack, the explosive part of the downed drone worked with a delay.
