Stimulating moscow to end the war through economic concessions and American investments is part of Washington's long-term plan to change the global balance of power. This is reported by Politico.

Donald Trump's team is convinced that it is Beijing, not russia, that poses the greatest geopolitical threat to the West.

"Finding a way to align closer with Russia could create a different power balance with China that could be very, very beneficial," the publication quotes an administration official as saying. This is how experts explain the willingness of special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to continue negotiations despite the lack of a breakthrough over the past 15 months.

At the same time, the idea of granting russia economic preferences is a matter of serious concern in Kyiv. Ukrainian officials remind that similar attempts to "appease" moscow have failed in the past.

"We had such attempts in the past already and it led to nothing. Germany had [Ostpolitik, Germany’s policy toward the East], for that and now Russia is fighting the deadliest war in Europe," sources in the Ukrainian government say.

According to observers, the US plan has little chance of success as long as putin and Xi Jinping remain in power, as both regimes are united by a common hatred of democratic values.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy expressed worries about the negotiations due to the US focus on Iran.

Zelenskyy calls the search for a place for talks "Santa Barbara" because the US and russia cannot reach an agreement.
