There have been calls in the UK to cancel the planned state visit of King Charles III to the United States of America due to the deterioration of relations with President Donald Trump and his policy toward Iran. It was reported by Sky News.

In recent days, tensions between London and Washington have risen sharply, and some British politicians believe that the monarch's state visit may look like support for the actions of the US administration.

Charles III's trip was planned for April 2026. It was supposed to be a symbolic event for the 250th anniversary of US independence and emphasize the alliance between the countries. However, now the parliament is calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to reconsider these plans.

Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey is convinced that a state visit in the current circumstances will be beneficial primarily to Donald Trump.

"A state visit from our King would be seen as yet another huge diplomatic coup for President Trump, so it should not be given to someone who repeatedly insults and damages our country," Davey said.

Opposition politicians also emphasize that against the backdrop of rising energy prices due to the conflict in the Middle East and the tense international situation, a lavish state reception would look inappropriate.

Davey also called the US military campaign against Iran illegal and noted that the British monarch should not actually legitimize Washington's actions by his presence.

A new round of conflict between the allies arose after the government of Keir Starmer refused to allow the United States to use British military bases for the first strikes on Iran. In response, Donald Trump publicly criticized the British prime minister, saying that he was "no Winston Churchill."

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the UK has sent a group of military specialists in countering drones to the Middle East to strengthen the protection of military bases from possible attacks by Iran.

Meanwhile, Trump criticized Britain for insufficient support in the war with Iran.
