As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ukraine announced the opening of a book of mourning in connection with the liquidation of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The diplomatic mission invited "all those who wish" to leave words of condolences and support at the Embassy in Kyiv from March 4 to 6, 2026. The proposal of the Iranian side caused a harsh reaction from the Ukrainian diplomatic corps. The Ambassador of Ukraine to South Africa, Oleksandr Shcherba, published a response on Facebook, in which he emphasized the direct responsibility of the Iranian leadership for war crimes against Ukrainians. The diplomat recalled that the leaders of Iran have stained themselves with the blood of thousands of civilians killed with the help of Shahed drones and other military technologies that Tehran supplied to russia.
