NABU and SAPO publish version of events that is not in materials of my case - ex-deputy head of President's Office Smirnov

Former deputy head of the President's Office Andrii Smyrnov accused the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) of manipulation after the announcement of sending the indictment in his case to the court.

He wrote about this on Facebook, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"NABU and SAPO came out with the news about sending my case to court. It would seem to be a standard procedural step. The indictment has been drawn up, the case has been transferred to court - let's move on. But there is one "but," Smirnov noted.

In particular, he noted that the description of the circumstances in the press releases of NABU and SAPO not only does not coincide with the materials of the proceedings, but contradicts them. In fact, according to him, both bodies published a version of events that is not in the case materials.

"In its statement, SAPO states that the defense side allegedly delayed familiarization with the materials. This did not happen. No court decision has established the fact of abuse of rights or delay. There is no procedural statement of this. This statement is simply made up for the press release. NABU went even further in its press release. It states that I allegedly accepted an offer of an illegal benefit, assumed certain obligations and even fulfilled them. The case materials do not contain any information about receiving an illegal benefit, or about obligations undertaken, or about their fulfillment. Moreover, "illegal benefit" is a complete fabrication," Smirnov wrote.

He is sure that if NABU and SAPO inform the public about procedural actions, they should do so at least within the framework of the plot that they themselves came up with and then wrote.

"Why invent something that contradicts your own logic, albeit a false one? After all, from the very first court hearings, all these circumstances "added" to the case by press releases will be the subject of public analysis. Every word that is not confirmed by evidence will have to be explained. Because this series is transforming from release to release: from "receiving an illegal benefit" they moved on to "accepting an offer", then to "fulfilling some obligations", which, obviously, appeared in the imagination of the authors of the reports after the investigation was completed. Now, there has been added the "delay in familiarization", which no one has ever established," the former President's Office official assured.

He undertook to remind that there is not just a significant difference between the text of the press release and the text of the indictment and the case materials, there is deliberate manipulation and untruth.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Smirnov links the suspicion of bribery with the futility of the case of illegal enrichment. He was informed of suspicion of bribery and money laundering, and earlier of suspicion of illegal enrichment.
