Ukraine has already received nine IRIS-T air defense systems from Germany, and the next batch of systems is expected in the near future.
The newly appointed German Ambassador Heiko Thoms has stated this in an interview with Suspilne, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
The diplomat emphasized that Berlin remains Kyiv's key partner in the field of air defense.
In addition to the IRIS-T systems, the ambassador recalled the transfer of two Patriot complexes at the end of 2025 and the uninterrupted supply of missiles to them.
"We have already transferred nine IRIS-T systems, as far as I know, and the supply of more new IRIS-T systems is expected in the near future," the ambassador said.
At the same time, Thoms, who is currently in Kyiv, admitted that despite all efforts, the available assistance is still not enough for full protection.
"I know that this is still not enough. As I said, I also live here and understand what the situation is, I know the realities. But we are doing everything we can and making every effort to support Ukraine - both through direct assistance to the energy sector and through the provision of air defense means," the ambassador added.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the day before, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that Berlin no longer has the opportunity to transfer Patriot complexes from its warehouses to Ukraine, since the country has already made a "disproportionately large contribution", giving over a third of its own arsenal.
In mid-December, Pistorius, during the opening of the 32nd meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (UDCG), stated that Germany had significantly strengthened Ukraine's air defense by transferring two powerful Patriot systems to the Armed Forces, as well as the ninth Iris-T anti-aircraft missile system.
