The Dominican nun Lucía Karam said that Pope Francis, who died on April 21, 2025, left funds in his will to purchase ambulances for her humanitarian mission in Ukraine. She told this on the air of the program Órbita, Religion Digital writes.
Karam, who has maintained a close relationship with the pontiff, admitted that this significant amount of money "touched her deeply."
"I knew he wanted to support the mission, but I didn't realize it would be like this. I was very impressed by his help," said the nun, who has traveled to Ukraine more than 20 times since the start of the full-scale invasion.

Karam is the director of the Santa Clara Monastery Foundation, which supports Ukrainians during the war. In November, President Zelenskyy awarded her the Order of Princess Olga, III Class. Through cooperation with the foundation, Ukraine has received vehicles, medicines, blankets, surgical equipment, generators, clothing, a mobile hospital and resuscitation vehicles.
Lucía Karam first came to Ukraine in 2015 to see the consequences of russian aggression with her own eyes. In particular, she visited medical institutions where she talked to wounded soldiers.
As a reminder, Pope Francis I died on April 21 at the age of 88. He was elected the 266th Pope on March 13, 2013. Shortly before his death, Francis I suffered a severe attack of bilateral pneumonia.
In his will, Pope Francis I expressed his desire to be buried in a regular wooden coffin. According to his last will, the tomb should be in the ground, without any special decorations and with an inscription: "Franciscus."
