An attack by Ukrainian drones on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant (GPP) has forced Kazakhstan to cut oil production at the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field.
Reuters reported this with reference to its own sources in the industry.
According to two unnamed sources, the attack on the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant resulted in a 25-30% drop in oil production at Karachaganak. Oil and gas production at this field are closely linked. This means that the field cannot produce much oil if its gas production is declining.
Gas from Karachaganak is used not only in processing at the Orenburg Gas Processing Plant. It is also used for re-injection into the field to maintain pressure in the reservoir, as well as for electricity generation at local facilities.
Oil from the Karachaganak field is exported by the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) through terminals in Black Sea ports and is also supplied to Germany through the Druzhba pipeline.
The field is being developed by KazMunayGas, Eni, Shell, Chevron and russia's Lukoil.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on October 12, the Financial Times wrote, citing sources, that the United States provides Ukraine with intelligence for strikes on russian energy facilities.
At the end of September, it became known that US President Donald Trump is ready to allow Ukraine to use American weapons to strike at russia.
As a reminder, as of the end of August, Ukrainian strikes disrupted the operation of 17% of russia's oil refining capacity.
