US President Donald Trump had a long conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the return flight from Alaska, where his summit with kremlin leader vladimir putin took place, CNN reports.
Trump, as indicated, arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland just after 2:00 a.m. EDT (9:00 a.m. Kyiv time) after the summit with putin ended.
According to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, the US President "spent most of the six-hour flight talking on the phone."
"After the phone call with Zelenskyy, Trump spoke with NATO," she said.
Zelenskyy's office confirmed that he spoke with Trump on Saturday morning. It is noted that Trump called Zelenskyy and they had a conversation with the leaders of NATO countries that joined later.
Meanwhile, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that he would meet with his American counterpart Donald Trump in Washington on August 18.
"A long, meaningful conversation with President Trump, first one-on-one, and then also with the participation of European leaders. In total, we talked for more than an hour and a half, about an hour with President Trump...
...I am going to discuss all the details about the killings, about the war, with President Trump in Washington on Monday. I am grateful for the invitation."
Zelenskyy said that he had learned about Trump's conversation with putin, and "America's strength affects the development of the situation."
The Ukrainian leader also supported the idea of a trilateral meeting.
