Mayor of Latvian city injured in Ukraine during humanitarian mission

The chairman of the Ogre municipal council, Egils Helmanis, was injured in Ukraine as a result of russian shelling. This is reported by LSM.lv.

Municipality representative Patriks Griva said that Helmanis is currently on a business trip, where, together with like-minded people, he is delivering the necessary vehicles and other assistance to the Ukrainian military.

"Such trips are regularly on the mayor's agenda, even since 2022, since the very beginning of the war, a significant number of cars have been donated and brought every few months, this time about 20 cars," he said.

According to information received from Ukrainian sources, Helmanis' health is stable.

"From what we know, there was shelling last night, as a result of which he was injured," Griva said.

When asked if the mayor was in the hospital, he replied that the details of the shelling and the location of the incident were unknown, since the route of the aid convoy is kept secret, and "every such trip is associated with risk." There is also no more precise information at the moment about what kind of injury he received.

Recall that last night, russian drones attacked a Polish factory in Vinnytsia. There are injured, in particular, two people received severe burns.
