Ukraine proposes that EU take over part of financing of Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2026

The Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Serhii Marchenko, stated that the European Union has been offered to take over part of the financing of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in 2026.

Marchenko wrote about this on Facebook following the results of meetings with representatives of the financial bloc of the G7 in Canada.

"The key topic raised with partners is ways to ensure the financial needs of Ukraine for 2026. We are currently conducting a dialogue on the possibility of integrating the Ukrainian military potential into the defense system of Europe," the Minister said.

Marchenko noted that such a decision has a number of strategic advantages for both Ukraine and the European Union.

According to him, Ukraine will gain financial stability in 2026, and the EU will be able to ensure its own security from potential russian aggression.

The Minister noted that the costs of providing the Defense Forces of Ukraine will constitute a small share of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the European Union. The costs can be divided between countries by blocs that want to join the initiative.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine previously stated that thanks to the "Danish model" in 2024, the Defense Forces of Ukraine received weapons worth EUR 538 million.

As a reminder, in the spring of 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers stated that they considered it inappropriate to redistribute funds from the telethon for the needs of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
