The European Union member states are considering the possibility of depriving Hungary of its voting rights because of its attempts to hinder support for Ukraine.
This is reported by The Guardian.
The journalists recalled that Hungary has repeatedly opposed Ukraine's membership in the EU, tried to block sanctions against russia and vetoed the allocation of EUR 6 billion to compensate other countries that provide military assistance to Ukraine.
"But now its attempts to stymie EU support for Ukraine could force a reckoning in its relations with the bloc at a moment when Orbán contends with his most serious political challenger in years," the publication writes.
It is clarified that EU member states are now more seriously than ever considering how to deprive Hungary of its voting rights under Article 7 of the EU Treaty, which provides for sanctions against a member state that systematically violates fundamental democratic norms.
