SSU and SBI detain former commander of AFU 155th brigade for desertion of subordinates

The Security Service of Ukraine and the State Bureau of Investigation detained the former commander of the 155th separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who allowed the desertion of subordinates.

This is stated in the SSU message on the Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

As the investigation established, while serving as commander, he did not inform law enforcement agencies about a significant number of facts of unauthorized abandonment of the place of service by personnel, which occurred during the preparation of the formation in the territory of the European Union, as well as the performance of combat missions on the Eastern Front.

Currently, law enforcement officers are checking information about the presence of corruption schemes in the brigade during the selection of servicemen for training abroad.

The sanctions of the article provide for a penalty of up to 10 years in prison.

A pre-trial investigation is underway to establish all the circumstances of the crime and other persons who may be involved in the offenses.

Law enforcement officers do not name the military man, but according to media reports, it is the former commander of the 155th separate mechanized brigade named after Anna Kyivska, Colonel Dmytro Riumshyn.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, journalist and military correspondent Yurii Butusov reported that 1,700 servicemen from the 155th separate mechanized brigade named after Anna Kyivska, which was trained in France, voluntarily left the service.

The Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapatyi, commenting on the situation in the 155th separate mechanized brigade named after Anna Kyivska, noted that he had not observed mass cases of soldiers abandoning their combat positions, and the number of cases of unauthorized abandonment of military units will decrease in proportion to the increase in combat readiness and motivation of personnel.

On January 20, it also became known that the SSU and the State Bureau of Investigation detained two generals and a colonel responsible for the unsuccessful defense of the Kharkiv Region in May 2024.
