Ukraine receives EUR 3 billion from EU, secured by revenues from frozen russian assets - Shmyhal

Ukraine has received EUR 3 billion from the European Union, secured by revenues from frozen russian assets.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced this on the Telegram channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The state budget of Ukraine has received EUR 3 billion from the EU within the framework of the ERA initiative. This is the first tranche of funds from the European Union, secured by revenues from frozen russian assets," he said.

Shmyhal noted that Ukraine will direct this resource to priority budget expenditures.

In total, the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine (ERA) initiative provides for the allocation of USD 50 billion to Ukraine, the EU contribution is EUR 18.1 billion (USD 20 billion).

"Thus, we are implementing the principle of "russia will pay" and strengthening the financial stability of Ukraine in 2025," Shmyhal noted.

He thanked partners for their unwavering support and solidarity.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in December 2024, Ukraine received the first USD 1 billion from the United States, secured by revenues from frozen russian assets.

In June, the leaders of the G7 countries reached an agreement on allocating USD 50 billion to Ukraine through the use of frozen russian assets.

The frozen assets of the Central Bank of russia in the EU reach EUR 210 billion and constitute the majority of such frozen assets worldwide, according to official EU data. Depending on the level of interest rates, the revenues from these assets are currently estimated at EUR 2.5-3 billion per year.
