President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke about a long meeting in Brussels (Belgium) on December 18 with the leaders of European countries to bring peace closer.

"Had a long meeting that lasted almost until 1 a.m. We are doing everything to ensure Europe has a united and strong position to bring peace closer. Peace is possible if we stand united against Russian madness. We are working on outlining security guarantees. Together with America, Europe has the power to pressure Russia into a real peace. Peace through strength will surely come. Today, we continue this work at the European Council meeting,” he said.
In turn, the Office of the President reported that Zelenskyy, after a meeting with leaders, heads of government and other representatives of European countries in Brussels, stated that Ukraine will do everything to become strong next year, and then it will be ready for diplomacy.
This meeting was attended, in particular, by: German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof, Polish President Andrzej Duda, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
The key topic of the meeting was how to strengthen Ukraine and strengthen its positions both on the front and in diplomacy.
"We are doing everything to ensure that Ukraine is strong, so that no one imposes anything on us, and I think that we are succeeding in everything," Zelenskyy said.
They also discussed strengthening Ukrainian air defense to protect cities and critical infrastructure. Zelenskyy stressed that Ukraine now urgently needs 19 air defense systems to protect distribution stations from russian strikes.
Special attention was paid to the training of Ukrainian brigades following the example of France and investments in the production of Ukrainian weapons following the example of Denmark, Zelenskyy called on all other partners to join these initiatives.
"Ukraine's strong position is the strengthening of our army and our economy. As for the economy, it seems to me that the partners have taken important steps regarding 50 billion, and we also received 20 billion from the United States. We are provided with finances for the next year. I believe that this also strengthens Ukraine," he noted.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, Zelenskyy previously criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s call to the leader of the aggressor country, russia, vladimir putin, regarding peace talks.
In December, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, said that Ukraine is currently not ready for negotiations with the aggressor country, russia, to end the war due to the lack of factors for forming strong negotiating positions.
