The aggressor country russia has no illusions about the election of Donald Trump as the U.S. President, expects the continuation of the policy of "restraint against Moscow", but is ready to work with the new Administration.
This is indicated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of russia on Telegram, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
"We have no illusions about the elected American President, who is well known in Russia, and the new composition of the Congress, where the Republicans, according to preliminary data, are gaining the upper hand. The ruling political elite in the U.S., regardless of party affiliation, adheres to anti-Russian attitudes and the line of "restraint against Moscow", the statement says.
At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the russian federation notes that russia will work with the new Administration and will strive to defend russian national interests, focusing "on the achievement of all the set goals of the special military operation."
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 5, presidential election was held in the U.S., where the main candidates were the current vice president, 60-year-old Democrat Kamala Harris, and the ex-president of the U.S., 78-year-old Republican Donald Trump.
Trump announced his victory in the election during a speech in Florida.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the race for the post of the President of the United States, noting that he highly appreciates Trump's commitment to the "peace through strength" approach in world affairs, which, according to Zelenskyy, can in practice bring a just peace in Ukraine closer.
