Serhii Derkach, Deputy Minister of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine, said that intergovernmental consultations are currently underway with Slovakia regarding the development of the border and improvement of communication between the countries.
He wrote about this on Facebook.
"At the end of the year, we plan to connect Kyiv with the main Slovak cities - Bratislava and Košice. The railway connection will be possible with a convenient transfer in Chop," the official said.
He added that the construction of a narrow track to Uzhhorod has already begun.
"This will make it possible to provide a passenger connection between Bratislava and Chop to Uzhhorod itself. We plan to launch this route in the traffic schedule for 2025-26," Serhii Derkach said.
As previously reported, the Ukrzaliznytsia joint-stock company and Polish State Railways (PKP) agreed to develop intermodal routes to Asia. It is noted that, despite the war, Ukraine remains a promising country for building diversification connections between Asia and EU countries, in particular thanks to the route: People's Republic of China - Republic of Kazakhstan - Republic of Azerbaijan - Georgia - Ukraine to the Republic of Poland through Polish-Ukrainian railway border crossings.
