New commander-in-chief of Sweden's armed forces calls military conflict with russia likely

The current period is even more dangerous than the Cold War, largely because of the "strategic instability" of the aggressor country, russia.

General Michael Claesson, the new commander-in-chief of Sweden's armed forces, told the Swedish publication SVT about this.

According to him, it is difficult to predict what will happen today, which makes it difficult to manage the situation. Claesson believes that russia has been a threat to Sweden's security policy since World War II. He said there are both similarities and differences with the Cold War.

"There is a lot in common, but at the same time it is somewhat more unpredictable than the Cold War. At that time there were other mechanisms and dialogue. Now is a more dangerous time," the general stressed.

Claesson said that russia is "strategically unpredictable" and that it cannot be ruled out that it will find itself in a military conflict with a NATO country like Sweden.

"I see many different types of threats. For example, when we talk about hybrid warfare, sometimes it sounds like a milder form of warfare, but it's not, it's a combination of exploiting vulnerabilities in society, and there are also components of conventional military violence," - emphasized the general.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, the North Atlantic Alliance is developing routes to transport a large number of wounded soldiers to medical facilities in the event of a war with russia.

Also, NATO is negotiating the deployment of more nuclear weapons because of the threat from russia and China.

In addition, according to media reports, NATO is developing numerous "land corridors" to transfer American troops and armored vehicles to the front line in the event of a major European land war with russia.
