Foreign Ministry disappointed that Switzerland supported the "peace initiative" of China and Brazil

Ukraine is disappointed that Switzerland supported the so-called "China-Brazil six-point consensus".

This is stated in the message of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Ministry notes that they cannot understand the logic of such a decision.

"After all, together with the Swiss Confederation, we organized the First Global Peace Summit on June 15-16 in Bürgenstock... Our countries continue to actively cooperate on increasing the number of signatories of the final Communiqué of this summit. Switzerland participates in thematic conferences on specific points of the Peace Formula, the purpose of which is preparation of a joint peace framework for the restoration of a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for Ukraine," the message reads.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that all ideas, discussions and plans regarding the restoration of peace for Ukraine should be based on two principles:

  • First, nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine.
  • Secondly, these proposals should be based on the UN Charter and include respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders.

"We consider the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to be the only way to a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace. There is no need to create additional formats and platforms for discussing ways to achieve peace for Ukraine," the Ministry says.

The Ministry notes that any initiatives that do not contain a clear reference to the UN Charter and do not guarantee the full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity are unacceptable. Such "peace initiatives" only create the illusion of dialogue.

"We call on the Swiss Confederation and all countries that support international law and the UN Charter to avoid participating in so-called "peace initiatives" that can only complicate the process of achieving a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for Ukraine," the Foreign Ministry added.

At the beginning of May, Li Hui made a series of visits to the countries of the so-called Global South. Based on the results of the trips, China prepared a new "peace" plan consisting of six points. These so-called peace initiatives include the following:

  • adhere to the "three principles" to cool down the situation: stopping hostilities, not aggravating the conflict and not spreading it to new territories;
  • recognition of the fact that dialogue and negotiations are the only possible way to resolve the crisis;
  • the parties to the conflict must avoid attacks on civilians and civilian objects, protect women, children and other victims of the conflict, as well as respect the basic rights of prisoners of war;
  • oppose the use of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons, prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and avoid nuclear crises;
  • oppose armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities;
  • jointly support international cooperation in energy, finance, grain trade, transport, etc., jointly support the security of key infrastructure such as oil and gas pipelines, energy facilities and submarine optical cables, and ensure the stability of the global supply system.
