Metinvest will install 30 MW of gas turbine plants in November

Metinvest Group will install 30 MW of gas turbine plants in November, thus the company's generation capacity will increase to 80 MW.

The Director General of the Metinvest Group, Yurii Ryzhenkov, said this in an interview with Forbes Ukraine, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"We have already contracted for USD 36 million for more than 30 MW of gas turbine plants, which are to be installed in November at our enterprises. We also have already installed 50 MW of generation in case of emergency situations - to calmly stop production in the event of a loss of power from the power system," said Ryzhenkov.

According to him, Metinvest is the largest consumer of electricity in the country.

"Our enterprises consume more than 550 MW, and before the war, when the Mariupol assets worked, it was 1,000 MW, which is comparable to the consumption of Kyiv," Ryzhenkov noted.

At the same time, in order to fully cover the needs of the company, it is necessary to invest USD 500 million in generation.

"In Metinvest, there are opinions that maybe we need to build something to provide ourselves with more than 10-15%, or maybe it is better to provide ourselves with 50% of our own generation. We are thinking about it," Ryzhenkov added.

According to him, during the shortage of electricity in the country, the company imports electricity to avoid blackouts.

Since there are no long-term import contracts in Ukraine, Metinvest sometimes overpays for electricity by more than twice.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, in 2023, compared to 2022, Metinvest reduced the loss 11.3 times, or by USD 2 billion, to USD 194 million.

In 2023, compared to 2022, the group reduced the production of finished goods by 18%, or by 0.486 million tons, to 2.291 million tons.

Metinvest has two metallurgical enterprises in Italy: Metinvest Trametal (San Giorgio di Nogaro, province of Udine) and Ferriera Valsider (Vallese di Oppeano, province of Verona).
