The Verkhovna Rada has appointed the acting minister, bodybuilder Matvii Bidnyi as the Minister of Youth and Sports.
Member of Parliament from the Holos faction, Yaroslav Zhelezniak, announced this on his Telegram channel, the Ukrainian News agency reports.
239 parliamentarians voted for the relevant decision, with the minimum required of 226.
"The Rada appointed M. V. Bidnyi to the position of Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine. Prior to that, he was in the status of acting minister. For - 239. Good luck with the reform of sports," he wrote.
44-year-old Bidnyi has been acting minister since November 2023.
Before that, from July 2020, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports.
In 2016-2020, Bidnyi was the director of the Department of Physical Culture and Non-Olympic Sports of the Ministry of Sports.
In 2001-2009, he worked as a trainer at SE Favoryt-S (Kyiv), in 2009-2011, he was the head of this fitness club.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on November 9, 2023, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed the Minister of Youth and Sports Vadym Hutsait, who had held this position since March 2020.
In July 2022, he was appointed president of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
