Cash Turnover At Banks’ Cash Desks Down 12.9% To UAH 2.2 Billion In 2022

In 2022, cash turnover at banks’ cash desks decreased by 16.2% compared to the same period last year to UAH 965.4 billion.

This is stated in the NBU message, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

The reasons for the decrease in cash turnover were the consequences of the military aggression of the Russian Federation: a decrease in economic activity, the destruction of infrastructure and the forced migration of Ukrainians abroad.

Cash issuance from banks last year amounted to UAH 2,281.8 billion and decreased by 11.8%, compared to the previous year.

At the same time, the structure of cash receipts and expenditures from cash desks of banks and collection companies on customer transactions remained stable.

Traditionally, the three most popular cash transactions for cash issuance include the following (% of the total expenditure):

- for customer transactions using payment cards - 83.1%;

- to reinforce postal operators - 4.9%;

- to purchase foreign currency from customers - 3.8%.

As before, the largest sources of cash receipts to banks were (% of total receipts):

- customer transactions using payment cards - 35.3%;

- trade revenue - 32.1%;

- revenue from all types of services - 15.8%.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, as of January 1, 2023, the amount of cash in circulation in Ukraine amounted to UAH 716.1 billion.

In particular, more than 2.9 billion banknotes totaling UAH 710.5 billion were in circulation, as well as almost 14.2 billion coins (without commemorative and investment) worth UAH 5.5 billion.
