Migration Service Checking Lawfulness Of Granting Ukrainian Citizenship To Foreigners
The Migration Service of Ukraine has begun checks at its territorial offices regarding lawfulness of granting Ukrainian citizenship to foreigners.
Deputy head of Migration Service Tetiana Nikitina said this during the presentation of the annual report, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
"Today we have started checks at our territorial branches regarding granting citizenship," she said.
The checks are performed by five commissions. The commissions include representatives of the Migration Service, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Interior Affairs.
The commissions will check all decisions on granting the Ukrainian citizenship made since 1991.
The Ministry of Interior Affairs initiated the checks.
She says 177 cases of illegal provision of Ukrainian citizenship were uncovered in 2017.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, in 2017, President Petro Poroshenko has granted a Ukrainian citizenship to 969 foreign citizens, of them most were from Syria (155 persons) and the Russian Federation (139 persons).
