Court Sentences To 2.5 Years In Prison, Frees Immediately Under Savchenko's Law Person Found Guilty Of Abducting Euromaidan Activists In Kyiv
On October 11, the Desnianskyi District Court of Kyiv has sentenced to twenty nine months in prison a Kyiv citizen found guilty of participating in abduction of activists of Euromaidan protests but freed him immediately under the Savchenko's law (that counts in one day spent in a pre-trial detention unit for two days of court sentence).
This is said in the court's ruling, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
The indicted has not admitted his guilt under any of the counts.
Still, the court found him guilty under Section 2, Article 146 (illegal capturing or abduction of a person) and Section 1, Article 309 (keeping narcotic substances) of the Penal Code.
But judge Oksana Bronovytska decide to treat the indicted under the Savchenko's law even despite the law was repealed by the Verkhovna Rada on May 18.
Thus the court counted in one year and three months of detention in a pre-trial unit for two and a half years in prison and released the indicted from custody.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 5, the Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv sentenced two tituskha (paid protestors) to five years in suspended sentence for helping police to arrest Euromaidan activists on January 23, 2014.
