Cold Snap Kills 40 Ukrainians As At 12 January

As at 12 January 2017, forty citizens have died as a result of cold injuries in Ukraine.

Tetiana Tymoshenko, the head of the urgent medical aid department at the Healthcare Ministry, announced this at a news briefing, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to the Healthcare Ministry, 869 patients have applied for medical treatment following cold injuries and 753 of them have been hospitalized.

As at 12 January 2017, the Healthcare Ministry has registered 40 deaths as a result of cold injuries. The most cases were registered in Rivne region, Lviv region, and Mykolaiv region.

Of those 40 people killed by the cold snap in Ukraine three died in hospitals, 27 were found dead in streets, and ten died of cold injuries in their homes.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, two died and seven people were hospitalized following cold injuries in Lviv region on 8 January 2017.
