European Commission Calls For Introduction Of EU Visa-Free Travel For Ukrainian Citizens
The European Commission has called for introduction of visa-free travel between Ukraine and the European Union.
The press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Ministry announced this after Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin met with European Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans, who is also the European commissioner for better regulation, inter-institutional relations, rule of law and charter of fundamental rights, Ukrainian News reports.
Klimkin informed Timmermans about Ukraine's progress in practical implementation of reforms, stressing that Ukraine has fulfilled all its obligations under the European Union's action plan on liberalization of its visas for Ukrainian citizens.
Klimkin stressed the need for the European Union to maintain a consolidated position on continuation of the sanctions pressure on Russia until full restoration of Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has explained that the European Union is postponing a decision on granting visa-free travel to Ukrainian citizens because of lack of a consensus on the mechanism for suspending the visa-free regime.
