United States at UN reacts sharply to attacks on Kyiv and calls on Kremlin to cease fire
The United States of America condemned the massive russian attacks on Kyiv during a meeting of the UN Security Council and stated that further escalation only complicates the prospects for peace talks.
This was stated by the Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States to the UN, Tammy Bruce, Ukrainian News Agency reports.
During her speech, she emphasized that the latest attacks by the russian federation on the Ukrainian capital have resulted in civilian casualties and large-scale destruction.
"The latest massive attacks on Kyiv by russia are a dangerous and barbaric escalation," Bruce said.
According to her, residential buildings, public transport, museum facilities and other civilian infrastructure were damaged as a result of the attacks.
The US representative also warned that the continuation of the shelling could negatively affect the diplomatic process and the prospects for ending the war.
"The United States again calls for an immediate comprehensive ceasefire as a step towards a sustainable negotiated end to the war," she said.
Bruce stressed that Washington considers diplomacy the only path to peace and is ready to play a constructive role if the parties are truly ready for negotiations.
At the same time, she warned that the alternative could be further aggravation of the situation and uncontrolled escalation of violence.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, three people were killed and 92 injured as a result of the russian federation's massive attack on Kyiv on the night of May 24.
