Occupants blow up dam near Kostiantynivka. Russia is creating humanitarian catastrophe - Lubinets
The aggressor country russia is once again deliberately creating a humanitarian catastrophe, which may be caused by blowing up a dam near Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk Region. The Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets announced this on his Facebook page on Friday, February 27.
Lubinets noted that the russians published footage of the destruction of a dam near Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk Region, which could lead to flooding of settlements, destruction of critical infrastructure and life support systems, destruction of roads and bridges. Such actions by the occupiers will also cause people to lose their homes and livelihoods. In addition, the destruction of the dam will cause poisoning of soil and water and the death of entire ecosystems.
"Let me remind you that under international humanitarian law, dams enjoy special protection. Their destruction is strictly prohibited. Such actions by Russia are a war crime and a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions. I have already sent relevant letters to the UN demanding to record this fact and provide a clear international legal assessment of the actions of the aggressor state," the Ombudsman emphasized.
Lubinets reminded the scale of the consequences of the russians' explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant.
As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, on February 25, DeepState analysts said that the russian occupiers destroyed the dam near the village of Osykove using a three-ton guided aerial bomb.
