Secretary-General of Taiwan’s National Security Council: Russia is helping China prepare to seize Taiwan by force

The Russian Federation is assisting the People’s Republic of China in preparing for military aggression against Taiwan.
Secretary-General of Taiwan’s National Security Council Joseph Wu stated this on his official X page.

"Russia and China are acting in collusion. Moscow is helping Beijing prepare for the military takeover of Taiwan, while the PRC remains a key source of support for Putin’s war against Ukraine. This is the reality we must face," the official concluded.

The Secretary-General made this statement while commenting on a Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) report, "How Russia is helping China Prepare to Seize Taiwan." According to the report, Russia has agreed to equip and train the People’s Liberation Army of China for amphibious landings of armored vehicles and the use of specialized reconnaissance capabilities. In the authors’ view, Russia is deliberately pushing China toward the seizure of Taiwan, calculating that this could trigger a U.S.—China war.

As a reminder, at the Warsaw Security Conference this week, Hsieh Tzu-sheng, Deputy Chief of the General Staff for Intelligence at Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense, said that a defeat for Ukraine would signal to China that more aggressive action against Taiwan is possible.

"We wish Ukraine victory. We can learn a great deal from the Ukrainian theater of war and use it to improve our readiness," he noted, emphasizing that Taipei is closely monitoring the course of the war.
