This week, European leaders will meet in Denmark to discuss a proposal to close the skies over part of Ukraine from air attacks by the aggressor country russia.

The British edition of The Telegraph writes about it with reference to its own sources.

According to the newspaper, a group of high-ranking Western politicians and military officials proposed an option to create an "air shield" over western Ukraine to shoot down russian missiles and drones. This zone could be extended to Kyiv itself.

The newspaper cites the 12-day war between Israel and Iran in June this year as an example. At the time, Western allies helped the Israeli army shoot down Iranian missiles and drones.

Since russia's air campaign is conducted with the help of drones and long-range missiles launched from deep in russian airspace, such an operation would not involve the risk of russian soldiers being killed, which would negate the possibility of escalation.

The publication notes that the creation of an "air shield" over part of Ukraine will demonstrate that Europe is determined enough to respond to air incursions and take some risks to do so.

It would also have a significant impact on Ukraine's military efforts, as the Ukrainian army would be able to move air defense assets from the west and strengthen air defenses in the central part of the country.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, yesterday, September 29, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said that by the end of the year Berlin will transfer two Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine.

Recall that in August, US President Donald Trump admitted that Washington does not rule out providing Ukraine with air support as part of future security guarantees.
