Trump's Alaska meeting with putin is not concession, but way to "look each other's eyes," - Marco Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and russian leader vladimir putin in Alaska is not a concession to Moscow. According to him, the American President wants to personally assess the situation.

He said this on the radio program Sid and Friends in the Morning, the transcript of which was published by the US Department of State.

Rubio explained that Trump's previous telephone conversations with putin did not bring any results.

"He wants to look this guy in the eye, see him in person. We need to talk one on one to assess the situation," - Rubio said.

He emphasized that this meeting does not mean concessions to the Kremlin, and its goal is to find out whether the dialogue has "at least some chance of success." Rubio also called Trump an "incredible negotiator" with an excellent instinct for understanding human nature and recalled that personal meetings have repeatedly helped him reach profitable trade deals.

The meeting in Alaska is scheduled for Friday.

Recall that Trump and putin will hold a bilateral meeting in Alaska on Friday, August 15.

According to Bloomberg, American and russian officials are working on an agreement before the meeting between Trump and putin. It will allow russia to consolidate the occupation of several regions of Ukraine.
