Russia calls Japanese loan to Ukraine secured by frozen russian assets "theft"
The spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the aggressor state of russia, Maria Zakharova, accused Japan of complicity in theft by providing Ukraine with a loan worth more than USD 3 billion for reconstruction, secured by proceeds from frozen russian assets.
This is reported by Reuters.
Thus, Zakharova told reporters that this loan would harm the already bad relations between Japan and russia, which are tense due to its support for Ukraine.
"We have long warned the Japanese side that participation in illegitimate experiments with the sovereign assets of the russian federation in any form... will be regarded by us as complicity in theft," she said.
According to Zakharova, russia views such a step "as extremely hostile, as treasonous."
"Tokyo cynically expressed hope that these actions would not have a negative impact on relations with russia. We are forced to disappoint them - such actions will certainly and inevitably have a negative impact on relations with russia," she said.
Recall that Japan signed an agreement with Ukraine on April 18 to provide a loan of USD 3.3 billion. According to the terms of the agreement, the loan will be repaid at the expense of proceeds from russian assets worth tens of billions of dollars that were frozen in the European Union due to the war in Ukraine.
The money is part of the G7 program "Extreme Acceleration of Revenues to the Budget of Ukraine" (ERA), which aims to provide Kyiv with USD 50 billion for the reconstruction of the country.
As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Japan has meanwhile agreed to provide Ukraine with satellite geospatial data, in particular, radar images from SAR satellites.
