Polish farmers threaten to close entire border with Ukraine in December
Polish farmers warn of the possibility of closing all border crossings with Ukraine if their demands are not met by the government, writes Rzeczpospolita.
In particular, such a protest may take place after December 10. These statements were made during negotiations with Polish Agriculture Minister Czesław Siekierski in Medyka, who promised to provide an answer by this date.
Farmers also expressed concern about the free trade agreement between the EU and Mercosur countries, fearing an increase in imports of cheap agricultural products. Among other demands is the preservation of the agricultural tax in 2024 at the level of the previous year.
Recall that on the morning of Saturday, November 23, Polish farmers began a strike in front of the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing. According to the co-organizer of the blockade, the farmers are protesting for two reasons.
He also recalled that when it came to the EU's free trade agreement with Mercosur, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the government "made it clear that this agreement would not be signed." According to journalists, the farmers say that if an agreement is not reached, they intend to protest 24/7 until the end of the year.
