For the first time in the world, use of chemical weapons by russians against Ukrainians confirmed

The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has confirmed the presence of dangerous chemical substances in the weapons that the aggressor country of russia is using against the Ukrainian military, contrary to international law.

This was stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Tuesday, November 19.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that two independent certified laboratories analyzed the RG-Vo grenades transferred by Ukraine and the corresponding soil samples. Based on the results, the OPCW prepared a report confirming the use of prohibited chemical substances by russia. In particular, the aggressor used chemical means to combat riots against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"The report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is a clear confirmation of the systematic use of dangerous chemicals by the russian federation against Ukraine. Thus, from February 2023 to October 2024, more than 4,600 cases of the use of russian ammunition containing dangerous chemicals, in particular chlorobenzalmalononitrile (CS), chloroacetophenone (CN), as well as chloropicrin and mercaptans (malodorants) were documented," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The department also stressed that the russian federation manufactures RG-Vo grenades at enterprises, in particular at the Applied Chemistry Research Center and the Research Institute of Applied Chemistry, which is a gross violation of Article 1, Paragraph 5, of the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and on their Destruction.

The Foreign Ministry called on partners to take decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, on October 8, the General Staff of Ukraine stated that in September alone, the occupiers used banned chemical weapons 250 times in the war with Ukraine.

In March, the russian occupiers doubled the number of chemical weapons dropped from Mavic drones.
