Trump choses Republican woman named Stefanik as US Ambassador to UN

The newly elected US President Donald Trump chose a Republican woman with the Ukrainian surname Stefanik as the US Ambassador to the UN.

This is reported by Reuters.

"I am honored to nominate Elise Stefanik to the position of US Ambassador to the United Nations in my office. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough and smart fighter for “America First," Trump said.

Elise Stefanik is a congresswoman from New York and the chairwoman of the Republican Conference in the US House of Representatives. She was elected to Congress at the age of 30, making her the youngest woman to hold such office.

Despite her Ukrainian surname, Stefanik is an ardent Trump supporter, who voted for the National Defense Authorization Act, which would have canceled USD 300 million in aid to Ukraine, and in 2024 voted against the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriations Act.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, former US presidential candidate Nikki Haley and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not join the new administration of Donald Trump.

Marco Rubio, Bill Hagerty, Robert O'Brien and Richard Grenell were named candidates for the post of US Secretary of State.

Previously, Trump said that if he wins the election, he wants to create a commission to review the effectiveness of the government and appoint billionaire Elon Musk as its head.
