Russia transfers "space infantry" to Kursk Oblast due to shortage of personnel - British intelligence

The aggressor state of the russian federation has sent a specialized motorized rifle regiment to the Kursk Oblast, formed from servicemen of the Aerospace Forces, who previously performed specialized functions. The use of specialists for the wrong purpose - in the role of infantry - will reduce the ability of the russian federation to achieve success and indicates a permanent shortage of personnel.

This is stated in the intelligence update of the Ministry of Defence of the United Kingdom.

Thus, according to the investigation of the russian publication Vazhnye Istorii (Important Stories), one of the units participating in the defense against the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk Oblast is a specialized motorized rifle regiment formed from servicemen of the Aerospace Forces, which is unusual for russia. According to the report, the motorized rifle regiment was formed in May 2024 and subordinated to the Northern Group of the Armed Forces of the russian federation.

It is reported that the motorized rifle regiment, which is being formed under the command of the Aerospace Forces, includes individuals who previously performed specialized functions, such as operators of early warning radars and operators of long-range aviation heavy bomber regiments.

"Diverting personnel from these previously high priority areas likely demonstrates continuing personnel shortages. By employing them in an infantry role, they are also being misused, which could reduce Russian cap ability to re-take territory in Kursk oblast," analysts said.

Also, the review noted, russia continues to create new units and recruit more personnel to sustain its mass attritional warfare approach against Ukraine.

"The high casualty rates that result mean that Russia needs to continuously replenish front line infantry personnel, which will almost certainly continue to limit Russia's ability to generate higher capability units,” the Defence Intelligence concluded.
