Ukraine to increase share of "green" energy in final energy consumption to 27% in 2030

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the national renewable energy action plan for the period up to 2030 and the plan of measures for its implementation.

This follows from a statement by the Ministry of Energy, the Ukrainian News agency reports.

"The National Plan for the Development of Renewable Energy is a supplement to the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and defines the trajectories of the development of renewable energy by sector until 2030 with measures for their implementation, taking into account the policies and measures determined by the NECP. According to the plan, the share of renewable sources of energy (RES) in gross final energy consumption will be 27%, namely: in heating and cooling systems - 29%; in the transport sector - 17%," the message states.

According to the report, a separate government decision established an additional annual support quota for economic entities producing electricity from alternative energy sources for 2024. Also, it approved the schedule for holding pilot auctions for the distribution of the support quota for 2024.

"Auctions for the distribution of support quotas are the most common mechanism in the world for stimulating the development of RES on a competitive basis. According to the Government's decision, the additional annual support quota is determined in the amount of 110 MW, of which SPP - 11 MW, WPP - 88 MW, and other types of alternative sources of energy - 11 MW. According to the schedule, pilot auctions for the distribution of support quotas are planned to be held already in October-November this year," the message states.

At the same time, it is expected that the first power generation facilities put into operation as a result of the pilot auctions will start supplying electricity to the network in 2025.

As the Ukrainian News agency earlier reported, since July 20, preferential lending programs for citizens to purchase solar panels and wind turbines began operating in Ukraine.
