Russia Court Sentences Ukrainian Film Director Sentsov To 20 Years In Prison

Judge Sergey Mikhailiuk, presiding at the trial, has announced this.

The Donetsk City Court of Russia's Rostov Region has sentenced Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov to 20 years of imprisonment.

Judge Sergey Mikhailiuk, presiding at the trial, has announced this.

"On basis of Section 3 of Article 69, to give Sentsov a final punishment on an aggregate of crimes by partial addition of the pronounced sentences in the form of deprivation of freedom for a period of 20 years," the judge said.

The duration of Sentsov's stay under arrest in the course of investigation and judicial trial from May 11, 2014 to August 25, 2015 was counted as the served term.

Until the verdict takes effect Sentsov will be kept in remand prison No.4.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says they have proofs of law-enforcers in the Russian Federation torturing Sentsov.
