Ukraine Calling On Russia To Take Measures Against Further Escalation In Donbas

According to Klimkin, implementing Minsk Agreements requires immediate preparations for OSCE monitoring of local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

Ukraine is calling on Russia to take measures against further escalation in Donbas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said in the statement.

"Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has urged Russia to take all possible measures to prevent further escalation in Donbas," the statement noted.

Speaking with Russia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov over the telephone Klimkin claimed the fighting near Shyrokine (Donetsk region) on August 9 and the attack of pro-Russia militants near the village of Starohnativka on August 10 looked like deliberative actions against withdrawing the weapons under 100-mm caliber and on deescalating the situation near Shyrokine.

The Ukrainian minister focused on the incident with firing four vehicles of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine that had occurred simultaneously with the above said provocations and aimed at hindering the OSCE mission from recording the violations of Minsk Agreements.

According to Klimkin, implementing Minsk Agreements requires immediate preparations for OSCE monitoring of local elections in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

As Ukrainian News reported, President Petro Poroshenko had urged Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin to immediately hold consultations with the ministers of foreign affairs of Germany, France and Russia regarding the situation in Donbas.
