Ilyushin Il-76MD Military Airplane Leaves For Denmark To Haul Fuel To Greenland Polar Station

The operation engages about 30 Ukrainian servicemen (crew and ground personnel, coordinators from Ukraine's AF Command).

An Armed Forces Ilyushin Il-76MD military transport aircraft has left for Denmark to take part in a joint Ukrainian-Danish military transport operation for transporting fuel to the Danish polar station on Greenland Northern Falcon 2015, reads a statement made by the Defence Ministry press service.

A plane with a group of Ukrainian commissioned airmen led by a representative of the Air Force aviation command Colonel Serhii Bliziniuk departed from Boryspil International Airport (Kyiv Region).

"During the Northern Falcon 2015 operation the Ukrainian pilots will airlift about 600,000 litres of fuel and other cargo for station needs from the United States Thule Air Force Base to the Danish Nord polar station on Greenland. The Ukrainian crews are estimated to complete about 60 flights and spend in the polar sky over 100 hours. The operation will last until May 9," it said.

The Ukrainian pilots will complete tasks in adverse weather conditions (air temperature below 50 degrees and wind speed up to 15-20 meters per second), and with no ground radio technical navigational means and reserve airfields.

The operation engages about 30 Ukrainian servicemen (crew and ground personnel, coordinators from Ukraine's AF Command).

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in April 2012, Ukrainian military aviation was taking part in a similar operation.
