The United States has imposed sanctions on 14 individuals and two Russian organizations because of the situation in Ukraine.

The press service of the Treasury Department of the United States announced this in a statement.

In particular, sanctions were imposed on former acting prime minister and former chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhii Arbuzov, former prime minister Mykola Azarov, and former minister of health Raisa Bohatyriova.

It also imposed sanctions on Russian political scientist Alexander Dugin, the Eurasian Youth Union's leaders Andrei Kovalenko and Pavel Kanishchev, the Russia-annexed Crimea's "interior minister" Serhii Abisov, and the head of the Federal Migration Service's division in Sevastopol (Crimea), Oleg Kozhura.

The Treasury Department's sanction list also includes Oleksandr Khodakovskyi (the former head of the self-proclaimed DPR security service and the chief of the separatists' Vostok Battalion), Kateryna Gubareva (the "deputy foreign minister" of the self-proclaimed DPR), Serhii Zdryliuk (a senior "rebel commander" in Donetsk), Oleksandr Karaman (the "deputy prime minister" of the DPR), Roman Liahin (the "head of the Central Election Committee" in the DPR), and Yuri Ivakin (the "head" of the ministry of internal affairs of the self-proclaimed "Luhansk People's Republic").

In addition, sanctions were imposed on the Russian National Commercial Bank (RNCB) and the Eurasian Youth Union.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Council of the European Union decided on March 6 to extend its sanctions in relation to the assets of former president Viktor Yanukovych, former interior minister Vitalii Zakharchenko, former prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka, and 15 Ukrainians suspected of embezzling public funds and involvement in human rights violations in Ukraine.
