President Petro Poroshenko has ordered the General Staff of Armed Forces to stop battle action in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone from Friday 18:00, reads a statement made by the President's press service.

"Proceeding from Russian President Vladimir Putin's calls to chieftains of illegal armed bands of Donbas to stop fire, and from signature of a protocol at the meeting of the trilateral contact group for implementation of the Ukrainian President's peace plan, I'm giving an order to chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces to cease fire from 18:00 of September 5," the statement said.

Poroshenko underlines, human life is the highest value so it is necessary to endeavour best efforts to discontinue bloodshed and put an end to people's suffering.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Poroshenko supposes that realisation of the peace plan for settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine may start on September 5.
