Cabinet Proposing Rada Repeal Ukraine's Non-Bloc Status

The Prime minister addressed President Petro Poroshenko with a request to define this bill as urgent and the parliament - to consider it immediately.

The Cabinet of Ministers is proposing that the Verkhovna Rada repeal Ukraine's non-bloc status, Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk has announced when opening a Cabinet of Ministers session.

"According to the NSDC yesterday's decision the Government of Ukraine is propounding a draft law to the parliament on undoing the State's non-bloc status and restoring the course towards NATO membership. Besides, under the law Ukraine's main and only objective in external policy is to receive European Union membership," said the Premier.

Yatseniuk underlines, this document prohibits the State from taking decision on membership in any other economic, political and military unions if this contradicts to Ukraine's main foreign-policy goal.

"This means Ukraine' will be prohibited from acceding the Customs, Eurasian Unions and other sorts of so-called unions that in fact are nothing more than the Soviet Union named after the Russian Federation," said the Premier.

He addressed President Petro Poroshenko with a request to define this bill as urgent and the parliament - to consider it immediately.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine calls the United States of America to grant it status of the USA's key ally outside the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

President Petro Poroshenko points to growth of the number of Ukrainian proponents of Ukraine's accession to the NATO.

In 2010 Ukraine passed the law on basis of foreign policy, envisaging Ukraine's non-bloc status.
