Poroshenko To Exercise Right To Disband Parliament

The president has said this speaking in an interview with Ukrainian television channels.

President Petro Poroshenko will exercise his right and disband Parliament as soon as he is vested in it.

The president has said this speaking in an interview with Ukrainian television channels.

"I am sure Ukrainians have materialized their will. When I get the constitutional grounds to do this, I will not hesitate dissolving the Parliament and the Ukrainian nation will enjoy the right to elect a new parliament at fair and transparent elections," he stressed.

The mechanism of early parliamentary elections has been started out, Poroshenko added.

He recalled the 31 July meeting with the parliament leaders, government officials and parliamentary factions agreed on reducing the snap parliamentary campaign provided they arrived at the compromise on amendments to the Law on Election of People's Deputies.

As Ukrainian News reported, the parliamentary coalition collapsed on July 24.

Under the law, Parliament will be disbanded if a new coalition is not formed during a month.

On August 1, Poroshenko, Prime Minister Arsenii Yatseniuk, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov and heads of parliamentary factions and groups agreed on reducing the early parliamentary election campaign from 60 to 45 days.
