InAU Predicts Higher Prices Of Internet Providers Due To Blockade Of Certain Russian Websites

The Internet Association of Ukraine predicts higher prices of internet providers as they will have to purchase equipment for blocking of internet access to the sanctioned Russian online resources.

Chairperson of the InAU Oleksandr Fedienko told this to journalists, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

"The equipment providers will have to purchase and commission is rather expensive and in the dollars. They will have to include these expenses in hard currency in their budgets and in tariffs to continue existence," he said.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Internet Association of Ukraine said that it is impossible for internet service providers to block accesses to the Russian websites affected by the sanctions.

President Petro Poroshenko introduced the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council's decision to impose sanctions on 1,228 individuals and 468 legal entities. The decision bans internet service providers from granting access to the Mail.ru, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and Yandex services.

The Ukrtelecom telecommunications company began working to implement the ban on granting access to the services of the Russian websites affected by the sanctions.

The 1C company (Russia) said that the sanctions will not affect technical support for its accounting software products.

Mail.Ru Group is a Russian technology company founded in 2005. The group's assets include the VKontakte and Odnoklassniki social networks, the ICQ and Agent Mail.Ru instant messaging services, the Mail.Ru Mail email service, the Mail.Ru and My.com portals, and their constituent services.
