Lawyer: Yanukovych Not Officially Informed About Date, Venue Of Case Against Him By Obolonskyi District Court Of Kyiv

Former president Viktor Yanukovych's defense team was not officially informed about the date and venue of hearings in the case against him by the Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv.

Lawyer Vitalii Serdiuk announced this on the 112 Ukraine television channel, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

According to Serdiuk, the summons for the former president should have been sent through the Russian Ministry of Justice and not published on the court's website.

"Viktor Yanukovych is not considered officially notified of the time and place of hearings in the case, and the court cannot begin hearing a case without properly summoning a person to the courtroom," Serdiuk said.

According to him, the sending of summons by ordinary mail has no legal force in this situation.

He also said that the defense team intends to file an application with the law enforcement agencies, asking them to investigate possible interference by the leadership of the Prosecutor-General's Office in the automated system for distribution of court cases in the Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv because the composition of the panel of judges became known before the case file was officially sent to court.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, the Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv has summoned Yanukovych to appear in court on May 4 for the beginning of hearings in the treason case against him.
