Poroshenko: IMF Suspends Allocation Of USD 1 Billion Due To Donbas Blockade

Poroshenko: IMF Suspends Allocation Of USD 1 Billion Due To Donbas Blockade

President Petro Poroshenko considers that a reason for suspending allocation of the USD 1 billion tranche by the International Monetary Fund is the blockade of Donbas.

The President of Ukraine said this at the Monday meeting of the Regional Development Council, Ukrainian News Agency reports.

Poroshenko added that Ukraine needs the tranche for further replenishment of the international reserves, retain stability of Ukraine's local currency and sending positive signals to investors.

The President noted that prior to the decision of the IMF to suspend allocation of the tranche, Ukraine had managed to assure the Fund of the necessity to avoid increase of retirement age within the pension reform and had received positive assessment to economic reforms.

The President also added that on Monday, he would meet with the minister of finance, head of the National Bank of Ukraine and the prime minister to find ways out of the situation.

The President called for combining efforts to receive the IMF tranche.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Finance Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk states that it is not planned to revise the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) loan program with the IMF.
