US Embassy Rules Out Recall Of Ambassador Yovanovitch From Ukraine Due To Trump’s Election As President

The United States embassy in Ukraine has ruled out recall of Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch from Ukraine because of the election of Donald Trump, the president of the United States.

A source at the embassy disclosed this to Ukrainian News Agency.

"There are two types of diplomatic appointments: political and career. Marie Yovanovitch is a career diplomat, therefore it does not affect him," the source said.

Recent media report indicated that Trump would require all United States ambassadors appointed for political reasons to leave their posts before his inauguration.

There are about 50 such ambassadors, including the ambassadors to 15 European Union countries, and the ambassadors to a number of international organizations, including the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), and the United Nations (UN).

Trump's inauguration will take place on January 20.

As Ukrainian News Agency earlier reported, Marie Yovanovitch assumed the post of United States ambassador to Ukraine in August 2016.
